Grand Canyon to mark Archeology Day with free events March 26-27
If you’re planning a trip to Grand Canyon National Park later this month, check out Archeology Day. Held on Saturday, March 27, this all-day educational program will focus on native peoples who inhabited the Grand Canyon in Arizona long ago and on how archeologists do their work. More than 4,000 archeological sites have been identified in the park, with artifacts that date back nearly 12,000 years.
The program will get underway on the evening before at 7:30 p.m. , when archeologist Ian Hough will present “Extreme Cultural Landscapes: New Archeological Research in Grand Canyon National Park” at the Shrine of the Ages Auditorium.
The next day, the Grand Canyon Visitor Center will offer family-friendly activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants will be able to make clay pots and split-twig figurines and try their hand at sifting for artifacts.
